ABOUT THIS PROGRAMME

Welcome to 2019 NZSO National Mentoring Programme Application.

What is it all about?

The NZSO National Mentoring Programme is part of the NZSO Learning and Connecting work. The aim of the mentoring programme is for the NZSO to connect with young musicians like you who are considering further music study or even music as a career. It is an opportunity to reveal to you the professional orchestral sector and get you to interact closely with experienced musicians from the orchestra.

What can you expect?

Participation in this programme will give you the opportunity to meet up with a musician from the orchestra on a few occasions, play music with them, and receive some guidance. Meetings will take place several times throughout the NZSO season - usually on the day of an NZSO concert, which you can then attend. You will be given two free tickets to each NZSO concert related to this session.

During your one on one meeting with your mentor you will have the opportunity to either play your instrument or discuss and explore music topics that are important to you.

Applications are welcome from young musicians aged between 13 and 18 and attending high school during the 2019 NZSO season. Students must have achieved grade 5 standard or higher on an orchestral instrument.

The mentoring sessions will take place in the NZSO’s main touring centres. Students from outside these centres are welcome to apply but are responsible for their own transport arrangements.

Please be aware that short listed candidates may be contacted to submit an audio recording.
