Since the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) came into effect in 1994, trade between the three countries has nearly quadrupled, the North American economy has more than doubled, and cross border investments have skyrocketed.
Businesses in Alberta have especially benefited from the Agreement. Alberta has become the second most dependent province on the Agreement, sending 88 percent of our exports to either the United States or Mexico in 2015. Yet, all this could change come August 16, 2017 when the United States has declared the NAFTA negotiation period can officially begin.
At the Chamber, we are beginning our advocacy work to ensure that a modernized NAFTA continues to benefit Calgary's business community. To do that, however, we need your input. Please fill out the survey below and tell us what NAFTA issues your business is most concerned with.
