NSGC Practice Guidance Committee (PGC) Topic Proposal Form: Practice Resources

This form is intended to gather proposals from the NSGC membership for genetic counseling Practice Resource topics.

Definitions:
  • Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) offer evidence-based recommendations and supporting documentation that attempt to conform to Institute of Medicine standards. CPG consist of two (2) distinct author groups: a Systematic Evidence Review group and a Practice Guidelines group.
  • Practice Resources (PR) include a broad category of less evidence-driven documents relating to information-sharing and genetic counseling best practices that do not require evidence-based recommendations. A single author group completes a PR.

For more help distinguishing between CPGs and PRs, please see NSGC’s Practice Guideline Development Manual. If your topic is best suited for a CPG, please complete NSGC’s Clinical Practice Guidance Topic Proposal Form.

If you are unsure whether to submit a CPG or a PR proposal, please use the CPG Topic Proposal form. The Practice Guidance Committee (PGC) will contact you if it determines that your proposal would be better suited for a PR.

Process:
  • The PGC will review each proposed topic with respect to feasibility, priority, and quality, as well as the NSGC Strategic Plan.
  • The PGC will invite selected proposal submitters to work with the Committee to develop a formal proposal.
  • The PGC will send approved proposals to the NSGC Board for final approval. For each PR, the PGC will solicit applications for resource-specific author groups.
