ark your calendars to help celebrate OSBA's 73rd Annual Convention, November 14-17, 2019, at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront Hotel.

We are seeking informative and interesting workshops primarily targeting school board members and superintendents submitted to OSBA by May 22, 2019. To be considered for a workshop, presenters must include at least one person from an OSBA-member district or educational partner (e.g. ODE, Education Northwest or other not-for-profit education-related entity).

The convention format features 75-minute workshops. The workshops are held on Friday and Saturday of convention.

Topics/focus areas we’re particularly interested in for the 2019 Convention include those which address the *board’s role in:
•         Culturally relevant and social-emotional learning
•         Advocacy – Keeping the Promise of Oregon
•         Increased graduation rates
•         Trauma-informed practices
•         Increasing student achievement
•         Addressing chronic absenteeism
•         Educational equity
•         Successful board-superintendent relationship
•         Strategic planning and implementation
•         Community College/K-12 partnerships
•         Balanced (Effective) Governance
•         Facilities planning and addressing needs

*OSBA sees the board’s role as the following: learning as a team/governance; setting clear expectations; providing necessary board-level support; holding the system accountable; advocacy/creating the public will to succeed.

To propose a workshop for the 2019 OSBA Annual Convention, complete and submit this Workshop Proposal Form by the deadline of May 22, 2019.

OSBA appreciates all submissions and will notify regarding acceptance the first week of June. Please note that if your submission is accepted, OSBA is unable to pay any travel related expenses for the presenters.

Convention registration is an expectation for all workshop presenters unless this presentation is the only area of participation the presenter(s) has.  Meal participation is in addition to registration.
