Kawartha Lakes Healthy Environment Plan

Come Stand under Our Umbrella!
Climate change action is a high priority for Kawartha Lakes. It is a key component of a number of the City’s Master Plans and is a top 30 Council priority in the current Council Strategic Plan and the Economic Development Policy adopted in 2017. The City of Kawartha Lakes is developing the Healthy Environment Plan as a comprehensive strategy to take action on climate change locally. There are two areas where we can take action. We can reduce the amount of greenhouse gas we emit. This is called mitigation. We can also anticipate and better prepare ourselves for the impacts of climate change. This is called adaptation.

Community GHGs are typically emitted from home and business heating and electricity, transportation, and the generation of waste. From a community perspective, mitigating and adapting to climate change requires support from individuals, businesses and institutions and various levels of government. We all have a role to play.

Climate change will have various impacts on our community that we need to prepare for. Click here to see an infographic on anticipated climate changes in Kawartha Lakes.
