Introduction
At the 30th UNECE UN/CEFACT Plenary in July 2024, a high-level policy dialogue underscored the critical importance of climate-smart connectivity along transit corridors as a driver for promoting regional and global integration and sustainable development. The plenary mandated the development of a policy recommendation and accompanying implementation guidelines to support UN Member States in enhancing digital and sustainable trade facilitation along transit corridors.
In line with this mandate, UN/CEFACT launched a project to develop a policy recommendation that assists UN Member States in enhancing digital and sustainable trade facilitation along transit corridors. The first phase focuses on scoping the project deliverables, gathering insights into the persistent challenges and inefficiencies in soft trade infrastructure that hinder seamless transit procedures and data exchange along corridors, particularly impacting trade competitiveness for landlocked developing countries.
This initiative builds on the UNECE UN/CEFACT Package of Standards for data exchange along supply chains, reflecting the increasing importance of UNECE UN/CEFACT tools in managing the complexities of data transfer across transport modes.
