Research conducted in 2010 found that 70% of  South Australians were concerned about exposure to passive smoke.

There is a high level of public support for smoking restrictions in public spaces, with research by Tobacco Control Research and Evaluation finding that 90% of people surveyed supported partial or total smoking bans at outdoor sporting grounds.

SANFL is considering the best way to introduce a consistent smoke free policy across venues that host SANFL fixtures.
Currently clubs have differing policies and SANFL wishes to implement a a single policy for outdoor areas at  SANFL Clubs.
