INTRODUCTION
Over the last two years, Health Issues Centre has worked with metro and rural and regional health service partners to develop a new approach to training staff to implement consumer engagement in their health service. This approach consist of HIC training a member of the health service staff team who would then be equipped to train others in the organisation.

Funded by Safer Care Victoria, this financial year we are expanding the Train the Trainer (TTT) program with the accompanying Guide and Toolkit to support 3 metro and 3 rural/regional health services to implement best practice consumer and community engagement more broadly.

The program includes:
  • 1 hr online meeting: introduction to the program
  • Four x 2 hr online training sessions to deliver competencies
  • Pre and post training session reading material
  • Coaching at 1 hr practice session
  • Tools/templates and resources for consumer engagement
  • Coaching and supervision over the implementation stage

Participating health services will need to commit to:
  • Allocating staff time to work with HIC to implement the program
  • Attending the Train the Trainer sessions
  • Piloting the program by training other staff to implement consumer and community engagement practices
  • Ensuring that all possible measures would be put in place to enable you to commit to the program in spite of organisational changes

We estimate that participation in the program will be approximately 70 hours spread over a period of 10 months.
