The 78 Community Advisory Council Application
The 78 Community Advisory Council (CAC) will provide regular and consistent opportunities for engagement between the City, community stakeholders, and developers on the 62-acre site known as the 78. Located in the 25th Ward, the 78 is bordered by the Chicago River on the west, Roosevelt Road on the north, Clark Street on the east and 16th Street on the south.
The CAC will serve as a community conduit for project input through regular meetings with the City and Related Midwest. For example, the CAC will advise on the impact of construction, open space community needs, pedestrian/alternative modes of transportation, affordable housing, and local connections to arts and culture, among other issues. The CAC will meet quarterly and serve as an advisory committee for at least three years.
The City hopes to identify CAC members from communities adjacent to the development, such as Pilsen, Chinatown, University Village, Printers Row, the Prairie District and Roosevelt Square. Additionally, we are seeking experts on City design and investment.
Roles and responsibilities include:
Receive quarterly updates which will include phasing plans of the project as they are approved
Advise on impact of construction logistics as they relate to external roadway systems;
Advise on educational programming along the riverfront;
Advise on open space community needs;
Advise on temporary uses along the riverfront/the southern end of the site;
Advise on pedestrian/alternative modes of transportation circulation;
Advise on off-site affordable housing locations;
Review MBE/WBE tracking and recommend local companies when and where appropriate;
Advise on local connections to art and culture; and
