Introduction

Compared to large international companies, Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) are more vulnerable to natural and man-made hazards due to resource, knowledge and planning gaps. 40-60% of SMEs do not recover from a disaster, yet at the same time, SMEs represent over 80% of any national economy and are closely wedded to community structures. SMEs are both critical for the resilience of countries and communities and as drivers of innovation which is key to changing the approach to reducing disaster risk.

As such, enhancing resilience is vital for the continued existence of SMEs. To build resilience, it is vital that SMEs incorporate long-term disaster risk reduction considerations as part of their decision-making process rather than focus only on response, preparedness and recovery.

This survey was developed as part of the Croatian contribution to the Disaster Preparedness and Prevention Initiative South East Europe (DPPI SEE) which your country is a member of and in cooperation with UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR). The survey was developed to systemically analyse the risks SMEs are faced with and to analyse their resilience. The goal of the survey is to identify patterns and good practices in the region and develop a set of guidelines for future reference in each of the member states.

The results of the survey will be analysed and presented at the next DPPI SEE event to be held in Croatia, however, please be assured that all answers that you provide will be kept with the strictest confidentiality. We kindly ask you to submit your answers by September 30th 2022.

The survey will take approximately 15 minutes to complete.
