What is TRIO Upward Bound Math-Science
TRIO Upward Bound Math-Science (UBMS) is a college readiness program designed to assist college bound high school students develop the skills and motivations necessary to successfully pursue and complete a college education.  Upward Bound Math-
Science helps students recognize and develop their potential to excel in math and science in secondary and postsecondary education. 

Who may apply?
Students may apply if they are in 8th, 9th, or 10th grade and attend one of our target schools (Abingdon-Avon, Galesburg,
Knoxville, Monmouth-Roseville, ROWVA). Applicants must be:
  • A U.S. citizen or permanent resident of the United States; 
  • A first-generation college student (parents have not earned a four-year college degree); AND/OR
  • Is considered income-eligible based on family's taxable income for 2020.

What benefits does a student receive from participating in TRIO Upward Bound Math-Science?
TRIO UBMS offers weekly, grade-specific academic sessions including:
  • College Visits
  • Help with college and scholarship applications and essays
  • Financial Aid and FAFSA Assistance
  • SAT prep and test waivers
  • Study skills
  • Career and college exploration

TRIO UBMS offers a Summer Enrichment Program for all of our students.
  • Rising Sophomores and Juniors participate in the 6-week on-campus program focusing on English, math, science, foreign language, and college visits.
  • Rising Seniors have the opportunity to complete a paid summer internship in a career field of their choice.
  • Graduating Seniors are given the opportunity to complete up to two college courses for credit (Summer Bridge).
  • All summer participants have the opportunity to attend a week long Summer Trip.
ALL TRIO Upward Bound Math-Science events, workshops, and trips are FREE for the students in our program!

The Carl Sandburg College Upward Bound Math-Science Program is 100% funded in the amount of $297,601 by the US Department of Education.
