Introduction
The Living Black at University Pledge is a sector-wide commitment to creating safer, more inclusive and equitable experiences for Black students and staff in university accommodation and residential life. Rooted in the findings of the 2022, Living Black at University report, the Pledge sets out six pillars of action that universities and PBSA providers can take to challenge racism, promote belonging, and embed cultural safety across their institutions.
By signing up to this Pledge, your organisation commits to working towards meaningful, measurable change in the areas of leadership, data transparency, representation, anti-racism reporting, training, and culturally competent wellbeing support.
This Stage 1 form serves as both a signatory declaration and an initial action planning tool. It is designed to capture your early priorities and intentions under each of the six pillars. Completion of this form signals your organisation’s commitment to the Pledge and interest in becoming part of a growing community of practice focused on racial equity and student wellbeing.
An optional Stage 2 pilot will offer signatories the opportunity to submit evidence and receive formal recognition through a tiered badge scheme.
We welcome your leadership in this vital area of sector change.
