Applying to the LPN Program
1) First apply to the college as a General Science Major (0603) through Enrollment Services. You can apply to the program online at www.essex.edu under the LPN Certificate Program tab. If you do not have a previous degree or are not transferring college-level English and math to Essex, you will need to take the placement exam to determine if you are at college-level in English, reading, and math.
2) Complete all developmental courses, as required.
3) Former students must reactivate their ECC ID#’s and email accounts.
4) Transfer students must submit an official copy of their transcript to Enrollment Services before June 1, 2021.
5) An unofficial transcript copy must be uploaded with the application.
6) Complete an online LPN application before June 30, 2021.
7) Please use your Essex email address and alternative email address.
8) Take the ATI TEAS- PN Exam when notified to do so. (This should should only be taken when instructed to do so by the Nursing Department)

Completion of ONE time Nursing Entrance Examination (ATI TEAS – PN) in reading, math, science and English. All ATI TEAS-PN Examinations MUST be taken at Essex County College, outside scores will not be accepted. An overall score of 50% or above and a score of 50% or above on the Reading portion qualifies you to be considered for admission to the program.
Minimum Requirements for Admission
1) Placement at college level in English, reading and mathematics or completion of ENG 096, RDG 096, and/or MTH 092, as required based on placement test scores
2) High school diploma or GED
3) A satisfactory score on the pre-admission exam: ATI TEAS-PN

The LPN Program is a 12 month, full-time, day program. The Nursing Entrance Examination (TEAS- PN) is given in July-August (this is subject to change). There is no waiting list for the LPN Program. Applicants will be notified by email to take the pre-admission exam.

To all prospective Nursing students:
Students enrolled in the Nursing Program must provide the following at their own expense:

1) A driver's license or birth certificate showing they are 18 years old
2) A copy of their high school diploma (US or US equivalent) or GED
3) A satisfactory criminal background check (International students require international background check)
4) A negative drug test
5) A health clearance per department policy
6) A current CPR certification

It is the student's responsibility to make mandatory payments toward ATI online resources as needed. 

Failure to provide all documentation may disqualify a student from clinical participation in which case the student will be unable to complete the program requirements and must withdraw from the LPN Program.

The LPN Program is very competitive. Completion of admissions requirements and the filing of an application do not automatically guarantee admission.
It is the student’s responsibility to ensure that OFFICIAL transcripts are forwarded to Enrollment Services, Essex County College, Newark, NJ 07102. Transcripts from other institutions must be received by June 1, to allow time for them to be evaluated prior to the June 30 application deadline. The Department of Nursing is NOT responsible for missing transcripts!
