My name is Gabriel Cabrera. I'm a junior biology and communications student at Ohio Valley University in Vienna, WV. I'm also an avid ultimate player and fan.

This semester I suffered an injury to the UCL in my throwing arm. Fortunately, the club team at OVU has access to our school's trainers and, after several weeks, we found that the injury came from repeated stress applied to my lower arm through the forehand motion. I've since corrected the mechanic to lessen the workload applied to my elbow and, surprisingly, added about 15 yards to my forehand huck.

This got me thinking: where are the studies on the kinesiology of ultimate? Why are there not ultimate-specific exercise programs and are there ways we can prevent potential injury to players while keeping the warm ups, conditioning, and overall activity distinctly separate from analogous activities such as soccer and football? Is there a secret formula which permeates the upper levels of the activity which has yet to trickle down to everyday pick-up players? All of these are questions I hope to ask and, with your help, answer.

I'm currently attempting to survey as many college and club teams as possible to determine the training standards and regimes instituted by individual programs when preparing players for competitive play. I'm also curious to know what access, if any, players at different competition levels have to certified athletic trainers or other medical staff who specialize in athletic injury and kinesiology.

So, if you would, please read over the following 10 questions and answer them to the best of your ability for your respective USAU ultimate team. Three random submissions will receive a Discraft Ultrastar for their help, so please make sure to include proper contact information if you would like to be entered for the discs!
