Overview

The East Hampton Historical Society and the East Hampton Town Marine Museum are planning an exhibition refresh to create an immersive, exciting exhibition experience that will leave a lasting impression and encourage frequent, repeat visits.  A related goal is to increase attendance while reaching a broader, more diverse audience of all ages and backgrounds while incorporating best practices in museum education and experience design.

At this early phase of planning, we are interested in your thoughts, in order to design an experience with broad appeal, fascinating stories, and accessibility.

A carry-about card given to you with your admission ticket can trigger exhibits when you approach them.  In turn, the exhibits might tell stories based on the lens through which you choose to view the exhibit gallery. These lenses could include: a fisherman preparing for a hurricane in 1938, a young girl fishing, an Indigenous fisherman--the possibilities are endless!  Imagine that you trigger an exhibit with a card you carry, like "Stories of the Sea," pictured below. * 12. Shipwrecks are a story that has long been told at the Marine Museum. A new experience could be designed to include objects, artifacts, and oral histories, all set in a highly experiential, "underwater" walk-through with some live fish and specialty lighting and projections. * 13. Oral histories are a big part of the Marine Museum's collection. One exhibit idea is to develop a space to walk amongst these stories which are metaphorically connected by fishing rope. What is your feeling about including small tanks, with some of the species that are/were fished for, in an experiential setting like shown below?
