Nature-based Solutions for Addressing Climate Change & Disaster Risk Reduction in Palau

This survey is being conducted to help prepare for the upcoming Nature-based Solutions (NbS) Validation Workshop co-hosted by The Nature Conservancy and the Office of Climate Change on September 7, 2022.
"Nature-based solutions (NbS) are actions that address societal challenges (such as climate change and disaster risk) by protecting, sustainably managing and restoring natural or modified ecosystems. They can be categorized into four groups:
  1. Fully natural solutions that utilize naturally occurring systems, such as coral reefs, marshes and mangroves;
  2. Managed natural solutions that utilize interventions, such as artificial coral or shellfish reefs, renourished beaches and dunes, planted marshes and mangroves;
  3. Hybrid solutions that combine structural engineering (“gray infrastructure”) and natural features (“green infrastructure"), such as marsh-levee systems or dune-dyke systems; and,
  4. Environment-friendly structural engineering that is beneficial to natural systems, such as vegetated engineering or bamboo sediment fences.
Aside from reducing climate-related disaster risk, NbS typically enhance food security, water security, social and economic development and human health. In short, NbS increase resilience through nature." - taken from the Blue Guide to Coastal Resilience

Thank you for taking the time to complete this survey.  Your insights on nature-based solutions are greatly appreciated and valued. This survey should take 10-15 minutes to complete.
1.Based on your understanding of nature-based solutions (NbS), in general do you consider NbS to be a valuable tool for addressing climate change and disaster risk reduction?(Required.)
2.If yes, please elaborate on why you believe it is a valuable tool in general and give any specific examples of NbS that come to mind. If no, please write "none."(Required.)
3.Are you aware of any nature-based solutions used in Palau today and/or in the past?(Required.)
4.Do you believe there are limitations to the use of nature-based solutions for climate change and disaster risk reduction?(Required.)
5.Are you familiar with Palau's existing policies and plans related to climate change and disaster risk management?
6.Based on what you know about existing climate change and disaster risk management policies and plans in Palau, do you believe they incorporate nature-based solutions adequately?(Required.)
7.In your opinion, is there a need to determine more ways that Palau might incorporate nature-based solutions more extensively into existing climate change and disaster risk management policies and plans?(Required.)
8.In your opinion, are there any challenges to incorporating nature-based solutions in climate change and disaster risk management policies and plans in Palau?(Required.)
9.If you believe there are challenges to incorporating more nature-based solutions in climate change and/or disaster risk management policies and plans in Palau, please specify.  If not, please write "none."
10.Please provide any further information or comments that you think would be useful.
