The Vermont Standards Board for Professional Educators (VSBPE) and the Vermont Agency of Education (AOE) are beginning the exciting work of revising the Vermont endorsement for elementary teachers. Endorsements represent the unique content knowledge and skills required for teaching specific subject matter. Endorsements also influence the hiring process and staffing for schools and shape educator preparation programs.

In July, a group of elementary educators reviewed a first draft of the elementary endorsement at a two-day focus group. The following draft is a reflection of this dedicated group's conversations and recommendations.

We are interested in hearing your feedback on each of the knowledge and performance standards, as well as the additional requirements. The standards are meant to represent the "do no harm" level of practice required for licensure.

Following this second round of reviews, the AOE and the VSBPE will create an additional draft for public comment this fall in anticipation of adopting a final endorsement revision early in 2014.
