The 2026 cohort will meet VIRTUALLY, every Thursday morning beginning 6/25/2026 from 10AM-12PM for 6 weeks, with the exception of the second session on 6/30 that will be held on a Tuesday due to the Holiday.
All Thursday morning from 10am-12pm: 6/25, 6/30 (Tuesday), 7/9, 7/16, 7/23, and 7/30.

Youth ages 16 - 19 years old currently living in LA County are invited to apply to this program to learn how public health can save lives. Gain knowledge about public health and new skills that you can use to make a difference in your community!
Public Health Youth Leaders is a FREE, fully virtual 6-week program that includes:
-Learning with expert guest speakers
-Volunteer and network opportunities
-Relationship building with County staff and various programs (e.g. Department of Mental Health, House of Ruth, Day One, etc.)

-Discover internship opportunities
-Certificate and/or letter of recommendation provided upon successful completion
Spaces are limited, so we recommend registering early! Applications close Sunday, May 31, 2026, at 11:59pm. Applicants will receive an email with their acceptance status the following week.

Eligibility
-16-19 years old (as of June 2026)

-Youth must be enrolled in a school in LA County
-Minimum 6-week commitment
-Have access to a computer or mobile device and Internet to join weekly online meetings and events
-Have access to MS Teams platform to join virtual program for 6 weeks
*Submit both required signed Consent Forms if under age 18
Program Expectations
-Active participation during weekly meetings (e.g. asking questions to guest speakers, engaging in conversation in the chat, completed all required assignments, etc.)
-If you have access to webcam, you will be asked to turn your camera on
-Participants that miss 2 or more meetings and/or final project will not be eligible to receive a certificate of completion and letter of recommendation
-Complete a final project by working in a team. This includes preparing a presentation with your team that will be shared during the final virtual session on July 30th. All team members must contribute equally to the final project to receive credit and be eligible for the certificate of completion and/or letter of recommendation.
*Once your application has been reviewed, you will be conditionally accepted into the program. Waiver forms will be sent out by email from PomonaWC@ph.lacounty.gov and must be received completed at least 3 days (June 22nd) before the program begins. If the waivers are not received on time, you may be dropped from the program.

Staff from Hollywood-Wilshire and Pomona Wellness Communities will review all Public Health Youth Leaders applications. All applications will remain confidential.
