Introduction

Welcome to the Hatzic Lake Management Plan Survey!
In the spring of 2019, the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) received funding from the Province of British Columbia Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development (FLNRORD) to support the development of a management plan for Hatzic Lake and contain invasive Flowering Rush. This initiative incorporates cross-governmental participation (local, provincial, federal and First Nations) and stakeholder input. The primary focus of the funding is to develop a Hatzic Lake Management Plan that will address the various issues within Hatzic Lake including managing an extremely invasive species, Flowering Rush (Butomus umbellatus). FLNRORD is focused on containing and controlling Flowering Rush within Hatzic Lake and preventing the downstream spread through Hatzic Slough downstream to the Fraser River. FLNRORD also recognizes the importance of incorporating additional ecosystem health indicators into the overall management plan including, but not limited to, water quality, water quantity, other invasive species, Indigenous traditional use, protection of fish and fish habitat.

The Project participants include representatives from Fraser Valley Regional District, Leq'a:mel First Nation, Se:math First Nation, Dewdney Area Improvement District, BC Ministry of Environment, BC Ministry of Agriculture and BC Ministry of Forest, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development, Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Fraser Health, Hatzic Lake Improvement Society and local residents.
