The economic upheaval has led in the workplace rulebook not merely being overturned, it’s being completely shredded. The result is unprecedented pressure on executives to embrace new work philosophies and practices, however herein lies a ‘double-whammy’;
• The increasing change gap – over the last 2 years, there's been a staggering 3-fold increase in the change gap (pace of change vs. ability to deal with it),
• Opposition to change – in 86% of organisations there’s one or more senior executive diametrically opposed to new ways of working.
The reality is that effective office designs, HR and management practices, ICT, and the financial gains from new work practices have been understood for a number of years. Yet, there remains this inexplicable resistance from some executives. To-date, this has gone largely unexplained – and this is something “Towards a New Mindset” aims to address. Our study will consider the spectrum of interventions required to change organisational and individual mindset towards new work practices.
In addition, with Durham University, we are developing a ‘toolkit’ of effective management practices that can be applied to achieve a change of mindset.
