PROJECT TITLE: Evaluating pain mechanisms and non-mechanical features of patellofemoral pain

INVESTIGATORS: Liam Maclachlan, Dr Natalie Collins, Prof Paul Hodges, Prof Bill Vicenzino

DID YOU KNOW:
kneecap pain is a common, debilitating problem that negatively impacts on quality of life. Up to 60% of people who receive evidence-based treatments for the problem experience poor long-term outcomes. This study is aiming to make a difference for people in pain.

HOW THIS STUDY HELPS:
By measuring sensory perceptions and health beliefs in those with and without kneecap pain, this study investigates different factors between the two groups that may be contributing to the problem.

HOW YOU CAN HELP:
Being “pain-free”, your participation will help us identify deficits that may be existing in the “kneecap pain” group.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN:
You will be invited to the therapies building within the University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus for a one-off testing session that lasts approximately one hour. During the session we will expose you to pressure and thermal stimuli to discover when you first detect the sensation and when your first onset of pain is.

WHAT HAPPENS AFTER YOU ANSWER THIS SURVEY?
We will contact you to inform you if you meet or do not meet the selection criteria for this study.
