Thank you for nominating a candidate for the Madison County Resource Education Program's Community Roots Award!
This award recognizes a school whose efforts towards environmental stewardship and waste reduction have positively impacted the community beyond school campus. Activities that qualify include:

  • off-campus community clean-up dates
  • collaboration with local businesses or non-profit organizations with related missions
  • community information campaigns
  • donations of goods as a waste-diversion effort
  • recycling drives open to the community
  • public gardens and plantings and more.

    The award consists of $150 for the winning to school to spend on furthering its efforts and a $150 donation to a local non-profit (501c3) organization of the school's choosing. 
  • Nominated school must currently be enrolled in the Resource Education Program.
  • Self-nominations are accepted and encouraged.
  • Entries must represent efforts (ongoing or completed) during the 2018-2019 school year.
  • Participation in official program collections, such as clothing or shoes for USAgain/Shoeman do not qualify for the Community Roots Award. School efforts must be outside the scope of regular program collections to qualify.
No nominations can be accepted after 5 pm on Friday, April 26th.

Impacts may be anecdotal/qualitative, but nominees are encouraged to include quantitative data (60 pounds of trash collected from city park, 200 gallons of water diverted through rain barrel collection, etc.).
