Welcome to the Native American Food Safety Training Needs Assessment

This need’s assessment is specifically targeted for Native agriculture operations engaging in the processing and/or manufacturing of food for human consumption. The Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative at the University of Arkansas (IFAI) , through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), is partnering with the Intertribal Agriculture Council and the University of Arizona to establish a Tribal Food Safety Alliance (TFSA). TFSA seeks provide for Native American outreach, training, technical assistance, and education on the Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA). The FSMA was passed by Congress in 2010, and the requirements implementing the FSMA were put into place in late 2015. IFAI is pleased to function in this role but needs your input to help us design the best program to meet your needs. If you are currently processing/manufacturing food or are interested in doing so in the future, please take a moment to reflect on and complete the following questions.

The purpose of the survey is to find out how IFAI can best meet the food safety compliance needs under the FSMA Preventive Controls for Human Foods rule for training, technical assistance, outreach, and education. The questions are designed to assist IFAI in determining best locations and focus for curriculum and content. Those having questions about this survey should contact Erin Parker (esparker@uark.edu) or Josiah Griffin (jwg012@uark.edu). Those with IRB concerns should contact irb@uark.edu. Completing this survey should take no longer no longer than 3-5 minutes. Your participation is entirely voluntary, and refusing to participate in the survey will not adversely affect any other relationship with University of Arkansas Indigenous Food and Agriculture Initiative.
