What will happen in this study?
You will be asked to complete a 30 minute survey. Your participation is anonymous and voluntary.
Who can participate in this study?
Individuals who are 18 or older and currently registered as undergraduate students in an English speaking university are eligible to participate in this study.
Are there any risks in taking part in this study?
No significant risks exist for participants of this study. Possible minor psychological discomfort may arise from prompts that request students to reflect on prior educational experiences. Additionally, emotional discomfort may arise as students are asked to describe their personality using the Ten Item Personality Inventory - an instrument that examines the big five personality types. With that, it is important to note that responding to such prompts are entirely optional. Students may also withdraw from the study at any time should they wish to do so.
What are the benefits to you participating in this study?
Students who completed the survey are eligible to enter a raffle for a chance to obtain one of five $50 gift cards. Confidentiality Data will be securely stored on encrypted computers and shared between the researchers using a FIPPA and PIPEDA compliant (federal government mandated) tool. Instead of using names or any identifiable information (e.g. student numbers), numeric codes will be assigned to participants to protect their identity. The Primary Investigators will only have access to the anonymized data. The information gathered from the surveys will be stored for 5 years at the University of Toronto - Mississauga on a secure and encrypted ISUP data storage system. To enter the raffle, students will be asked to input their University of Toronto email into a separate survey.
Survey data will not be correlated.
