I am interested in the effects that the physical and mental effects of the menopause transition (perimenopause to post menopause) have on working anaesthetists.
Menopause can be a f@#king brutal time for women and for so long there has been huge stigma attached to identifying as having issues. From the insomnia, joint pains, and hot flushes, to brain fog, word finding difficulties and full blown mental health crises, it can have massive impact on us showing up to work to do our job.
There has been a similar study done on UK physicians, published in the BMJ, but none specific to anaesthesia. I would be planning to present the information at a workshop at the ANZCA ASM in Sydney this year. The survey is totally anonymous, and there are plenty of spaces for free text comments if you feel inspired to rant.
This is open to all anaesthetists who feel they identify with this as an issue.
