Single Instrument Content Input-ASBDA Curriculum Guide Ed.3

The new edition of the ASBDA Curriculum Guide (2020,) will include a chapter on teaching individual instrument skills. Within this chapter, each band instrument will have a sub-section. Each of these will be organized identically with the same general types of information, just specific to the instrument. For gathering this information, a template of questions was distributed to the ASBDA members working on this portion of the book, however the response rate of return for completed questions has been less than desired. This form is a different means of gathering the same information.

The input of any ASBDA member toward any individual instrument content is welcome. The detailed, lengthy questions here will not appear in the final print version. Simple headings will be used instead. These questions are simply a specific guide to be used in developing content so that all contributing will interpret the content categories in a consistent manner.

You many answer as many or as few of these questions as you wish. Please go to the last page and hit the "DONE" button if you want to submit a partial responses before reaching the end!

When you respond, you will be doing so for ONE instrument only. The descriptions that follow each main question topic are suggestions only; you may include whatever you feel is important. The question format is long answer with a comment box for your response. It may look quite small, but you will see a corner of the box which you may click and drag to make it larger. Do respond with complete sentences and complete thoughts as much as possible. Doing so makes it easy for your contribution to be used.

At the end you will find an upload link for any supporting materials you may wish to share. (Photographs and illustrations are desirable.)

If you wish to respond for an additional instrument, you may repeat the survey again as needed for each instrument. If you think of something additional for an instrument for which you have already responded, simply do another response for that instrument and only answer where you wish to add more. (There is no need for you to duplicate anything you have already submitted.)

Note: In order to get this out quickly, the questions here have not been modified to specifically fit percussion instruments. If responding for percussion, use your judgement to interpret them with the most closely aligned content specific to percussion. In the wording of your responses, just make it clear how you are interpreting the question - don't leave it to assumption.
