Please read the following information carefully before you decide whether or not to participate in the study.

How Do You Remember Your Life?

What is the purpose of the project?
The current study aims to investigate the relationship between attention capacity, expected life milestones within society, and characteristics of personal memories within the general population. Additionally, this study seeks to explore executive functioning and recollective experience as the possible underlying cognitive mechanisms.

What will happen to me if I take part?
You will be asked to briefly describe the life milestones expected to be experienced by society, and events you have personally experienced in your lifetime. Following that, you will complete several questionnaires measuring your memory recall experiences, attention capacity and other executive functioning. The study will take approximately 20 to 30 minutes to complete.

Am I eligible to take part?
You are eligible to take part if you are:
  • Aged 18 to 59 years old
  • A Malaysian citizen
  • Do not have a severe psychiatric or neurological disorder

Do I have to take part?
No, giving your permission and taking part is entirely voluntary and will not have any impact on you. Do note that you are free to withdraw at any point during the survey, and your data will not be collected or used subsequently.

Will my answers be kept confidential?
Yes, your answers will be kept confidential and stored electronically in a password-protected file that will not include any personal information about you.

Is there any risk in this project?
This study involves recalling and describing personal life memories, which may include emotionally significant or sensitive events. Because of this, some participants may experience emotional discomfort while reflecting on these memories. However, there are no other known risks associated with participating in this project.

You may skip any questions you feel uncomfortable answering and may withdraw at any time before submitting your responses without any penalty. Will I be given any compensation?
There will be no compensation given for participation in this study.

This research project has been reviewed and approved by the School Ethics Review Committee (Approval Code: 2025/REC/FMLS/BPSY/0102).
