At New Jersey's public colleges and universities, full-time faculty receive health care through subsidies provided by their institutions.
However, the majority of instructors at these institutions are part-time adjunct faculty, who are paid significantly less, receive no employer-sponsored health benefits, and must pay the full cost of health insurance out of pocket, which is unaffordable.
Many adjunct faculty teach the equivalent of a full-time course load by working across multiple public colleges and universities. Despite performing the same essential teaching work, they remain excluded from the benefits available to full-time faculty.
Adjunct faculty who teach the equivalent of a full-time workload deserve access to the same benefits as full-time faculty.
We, the undersigned, call on the Governor, the Legislature, and New Jersey’s public colleges and universities to take immediate action to ensure that adjunct faculty teaching a full-time workload have access to affordable health care.
