Newquay Cricket Club 2018 Question Title * 1. Have you enjoyed your 2018 cricket season? Please add comments to justify your answer. Yes, very much so. Generally, it was good. Unsure. Not really, no. Not at all. Can you give a reason for your response Question Title * 2. 25% of the club's income comes from match fees and member subscriptions. We have struggled this year to get the full amount in - despite the fees and subs being cheaper than most clubs. This season was worse than ever, with a long list of players owing money or outright refusing to pay. Why is this? Match Fees too high Subscriptions too high I do not understand why we should be paying either Not enough pressure from the club to enforce payment / the system needs tweaking I want to play cricket but I cannot afford it Various ways of paying subscriptions too complicated Please add any other reasons or comments. Question Title * 3. In response to the previous question, please give some idea of what is acceptable to you. How much should match fees be? How much should subscriptions be? If you do not think we should be paying either, please give alternative methods of paying for our cricket How should the club enforce payment? Please suggest methods how we can make cricket more 'affordable'? Please suggest new ways of collecting subs that we have not already tried. We do offer one-off payments to cover all cricket throughout the summer. We also offer weekly payment plans to pay off subs. Question Title * 4. This season our teams struggled to field their strongest side. Almost every week the sides contained many players who were helping out and playing way above their level. This cannot continue. What do you think the reasons for this are? We are trying to run too many teams Players have too many other things to do on a Saturday A game of cricket takes too long Too expensive every week Work commitments Quite simply - too many people in the club don't care. Please qualify any answer you have given, or add any comments. Question Title * 5. Social events and the social side of the club are vital to our well-being. Currently, attendance at events has dropped off, and nobody is now willing to run them. Would you consider being social secretary? No, but I'll attend every social and fund-raising event. I will attend if I have time, but don't have time to get involved in the organising and running. I do not enjoy social events, and wish to have no involvement. Yes, I'd like to help and get involved (if so, please contact Sam). Other (please specify) / any other constructive comments / suggestions to add. Question Title * 6. This question seems to be a recurring theme every year. We have a lot of comments, good and bad about the sportscentre. Being based here has drawbacks and positives. What do you think we should do about this issue? I think we should stay at the Sports Centre whatever I think we should stay at the Sports Centre, but we take ownership of the bar, the changing room and the fields, possibly in partnership with the rugby club (if applicable) I think we should stay at the sports centre ensuring there is no significant rise in our annual fees I think we should move (if so, please specify where) Please qualify any answers or add other responses, especially if you feel we should move. We're open to all suggestions. Question Title * 7. Each year we have an overseas player to strengthen the club and to ensure they are competitive. This is getting more expensive each year to attract a player of the necessary standard. Last year we had an unpaid amateur player who did a great job as 2nd XI skipper. Should we continue to go down this route or focus efforts elsewhere? Yes I think it is the right thing to do Yes, but I would like to see the overseas or paid player contributing more I am not sure as it doesn't really affect me No it is a short term fix and not sustainable No, overseas players are a waste of club money Please qualify your answer Question Title * 8. Last season, getting 4 sides out was a real struggle. It involved loan players, and a lot of players from Devon at times. 3 of the 4 teams were often weak and struggled in their leagues. Do you feel we should drop to 3 teams? Please justify your answer. Yes, it's better to have 3 strong, happy teams. Not sure, it depends who stays and who leaves during the winter. No, we must keep 4 teams. Other (please specify) - add justification and feelings, this is a very real option and one that would have repercussions. Question Title * 9. There are always jobs to be done and too many end up being done by too few. Why is this? General Apathy Bad communication - I will help out if I am asked As long as the pitch is marked on a Saturday I am happy I am always looking for new ideas to move the club forward! First in the queue to join the committee Other (please specify) Question Title * 10. 2018 winter nets are yet to be booked. Last year, attendance was very poor and the club lost money. What is your preference of location? Treviglas Hub (fairly expensive, very bouncy) Newquay Sportscentre (expensive rates, poor bounce, poor light, very few slots available) Truro Cricket Centre (excellent facility, well priced, but a fair distance to travel) RAF St Mawgan (free, lots of available slots, but only one lane and everyone would require to be booked in) Don't care, as I won't attend anyway. I do my own training elsewhere and don't require the option. Other (please specify) Done
