CBV Institute’s Sponsored Research Initiative was started in 2004 to foster original research in business valuation and related topics. Since its inception, the initiative has annually sponsored CBVs, academics, and students to further innovative research in the business valuation field.

Valuation practitioners and students of the CBV program are encouraged to submit proposals by the deadline of September 11, 2026. Submissions are also welcomed from academics and professionals who do not hold the CBV designation but who work in complementary areas such as accounting, finance, economics, data science, and litigation.

The winning proposal can be on any under-explored topic of relevance to business valuation practitioners. To help spark ideas, here are a few trending topics: private credit, valuation risk, AI/digital infrastructure, and dealing with uncertainty in the business environment/geopolitical risks. However, we welcome submissions on any topic you believe is impactful or thought-provoking for CBVs.

CBV Institute provides compensation of $10,000 for completion of the selected research project.
