Our City is growing and the rules are changing

The Government has directed councils to enable increased housing density in urban areas to help address New Zealand’s housing shortage. This means we need to change our city’s planning rules to enable 3-storey houses in all residential areas, and even taller buildings within walking distances of local centres, the city centre and public transport stops. We are also proposing to rezone land in the Northern Growth Area for urban development.
 
To make this happen, Council is required to notify a variation to its Proposed District Plan making these changes by August 2022. Before we do this, we’d like to hear your thoughts on what is proposed.
