Study Title: Faculty Perceptions and Uses of AI in Research

Introduction:
You are invited to take part in a research study to evaluate and understand faculty researchers’ experiences and perceptions of using AI for a variety of tasks while conducting, analyzing, and reporting research or creative activities. The researchers are inviting any SUNY faculty member who has used AI to assist them with their research or creative activities to participate. You must be 18 years of age and have used AI in some aspect during a recent research or creative activities project to participate in this study. This form is part of a process called “informed consent” to allow you to understand this study before deciding whether to take part.

Procedures:
This study involves the following steps:

· Participants will be invited to engage in the study by an email invitation or a website.

· The digital survey should take about 15-20 minutes to complete. Additionally, you will be asked some demographic questions about yourself. You may skip any question for any reason.

· The researchers may contact the participant to verify their responses are accurate or to ask follow-up questions based on the participant’s responses. Participation is the optional follow-up interview should take approximately 30-40 minutes.

Number of People Taking Part in the Study:
Around 250 individuals are invited to participate.

Risks of Being in the Study:
There are no potential risks beyond what would be expected in everyday life; however, being in this study could involve some minor discomfort from revealing personal experiences. You may skip any question (survey and/or follow-up interview) for any reason.

Benefits of Taking Part in the Study:
This study offers no direct benefits to individual volunteers. The aim of this study is to benefit researchers who are interested in learning how to utilize AI ethically to conduct research.

Voluntary Nature of the Study:
Research should only be done with those who freely volunteer. Everyone involved will respect your decision to join or not. If you decide to join the study now, you can still change your mind later. You may withdraw from the research, without consequence, until the collected information has been de-identified (withdrawal requests should to be made prior to 12/31/26, otherwise we cannot guarantee that your request will be possible).

Payment:
No payment will be given for participating. There is no cost involved to participate.

Privacy and Confidentiality:
Although the information collected for this research study may initially be identifiable, all collected information will be de-identified when data collection is complete. Indirect identification of participants may be possible based on the demographic data that will be collected; however, it is not the intention of the researchers to identify any participant, and if indirect identification does occur, the identity of the participant will not be recorded in the collected data set. Only aggregate data will be reported and used for dissemination of the research findings. The researchers will not use your name in any resulting publication or presentation. The researchers will not use your personal information for any purposes outside of this study. Once identifiers have been removed, this information could be used for future research studies by the investigators without additional consent from the subject or the legally authorized representative.

Participants are requested to refrain from identifying any third parties by name. Any identifiable information will be deleted from the data before analysis begins.

Follow-up interviews will be audio/video recorded and transcribed using Microsoft Teams. The researchers below are the only individuals who will have access to the recordings. After recordings have been transcribed and the survey and interview data are linked, all recordings will be deleted.

All data will be kept secure by password protection and participants codes will be used in the place of names, if provided, until the data is de-identified. The de-identified collected data will be stored for 3 years.
