My Hospital Journey

Information about this survey

Age NI is carrying out research on behalf of the NI Frailty Network on the subject of unplanned hospital stays. We are inviting people aged 65 and over to tell us about an experience of an unplanned stay in hospital in Northern Ireland in the last 12 months.

The survey should take about 15 minutes to complete. Most of the questions are multiple choice and at the end you will have the opportunity to write anything else you want to say. If you are not able to complete the survey all at once, you can save each section and come back to it later. You may also want to have someone supporting you to read and answer the questions or ask a family member or carer to fill it in on your behalf.

If you find that you would prefer to complete a paper copy of the survey, please call Age NI on 028 9024 5729 to request a copy that can be returned by post free of charge. You can also request support from Age NI to answer the survey over the phone.

What is the purpose of the research?
The purpose of this survey is to find out more about the impact of hospital stays on older people. The researchers are interested in finding out about both positive and negative experiences.

Will I be anonymous?
The survey is completely anonymous and you do not have to share your name or contact information.

What will happen to my answers?
Your answers will be stored on a secure computer. The researchers will analyse the data from all the surveys completed and write a report. We will store the data for 5 years and then destroy it. A report will be published by Age NI and the NI Frailty Network and the data may be used again in other future publications. You will not be identifiable in the report or any future publications.

What if I change my mind about taking part?
During the survey, you can change your mind at any time and choose not to submit at the end. Once you click ‘submit’ on the final page, your answers will be included in the research.
