General Information
The Washington State History Museum, Tacoma Art Museum, and Museum of Glass are partnering to host the annual IN THE SPIRIT Northwest Native Festival in Tacoma, Washington on Saturday, August 6, 2022. This free festival will include exhibitions, performances, activities, arts market, and a contemporary Native fashion show at TAM.
Call for Designers
As part of the festival, the Tacoma Art Museum will host the IN THE SPIRIT Northwest Native Festival Fashion Show, which brings talented regional designers to showcase their collections at TAM.

- Selected designers will receive a $1000 honorarium to present their 6-12 look collection.
- Designers with smaller collections or single looks are encouraged to apply. Honorarium will reflect the number of presented looks.
- Designers traveling outside of the state will be provided a hotel room but no additional reimbursement for travel expenses.
In the past we have showcased Streetwear, Couture, Menswear, and Jewelry. However, all designers across the spectrum of styles and aesthetics are encouraged to apply.
Eligibility
The IN THE SPIRIT Northwest Native Festival Fashion Show is open to designers residing in Washington, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Alaska, and British Columbia, Canada. All applicants must be 18 years of age or older at the time of application. Only Native American artisans will be accepted for this event. Eligibility requirements are in compliance with the Indian Arts and Crafts Act of 1990 (P.L. 101-644). Under the Act, an artist must be a member of a state or federally recognized tribe or be certified as a tribal artisan by a tribe. You must send proof of enrollment.

Designers agree to:
- Participate in the fashion show at TAM on Saturday, August 6, 2022
- Secure models to showcase designs in show
- Secure hair and makeup for their models
- Attend fashion show logistics meeting at TAM (date TBD)
- Optional: Vend at the TAM arts market during the festival. The general call for vendors can be found here.
Application Guidelines
All application materials must be received by midnight PST on Wednesday, June 1, 2022. Only applications received by this date will be considered. Event organizers will review all applications and select designers. Applicants will be notified by Friday, June 17th.
Designers will be selected by the quality and strength of work as demonstrated in the submitted application materials.
