Volunteer Opportunities Annual Picnic – Friday 10/17 2pm - Volunteer are needed with this annual party that takes place in October. A variety of jobs are needed from prep, serving and cleanup! Contact: Chef Michael DiBuono michael@hope4all.church Blessing of the Animals – Saturday 10/4 10am - The team plans and orchestrates this once a year event held in October. The “blessing service” is Hope Lutheran Church’s gift to all persons with pets as a part of their family in the community. All household pets with paws, claws, fur and feathers are invited to attend. Contact: Mary Beth Stoner marybeth@hope4all.church. 90+ Birthday Party – Sunday 10/12 9am - The 90+ Birthday Party is held in October of each year to celebrate the birthday of Hope members and friends of members that are 90+ years old. An invitation is sent to all 90+ year old members to attend. Some of the past events include fish fry’s, church-wide picnic, holiday events, weekly social suppers, breakfast events, pancake breakfasts and dinners, luncheons, and SO much more! Contact: Chef Michael DiBuono michael@hope4all.church Funeral Reception Team - Various times - The mission of the five teams is to provide food and beverages for a funeral/memorial luncheon at the church. These teams rotate and members of a team are asked to provide specific food items, help in setting up and clean up. This is an invaluable ministry which reduces the burden of arrangements that members and their families need to make when they have lost a loved one. After the baptism ceremony, children will be given a crib sized quilt as a remembrance of this special time. Contact: Betty Streich zcabed@comcast.net My Time Care Giver Respite – Thursdays 12pm - My Time for Free Time Group Respite provides a supervised environment where caregivers can drop off family members with special needs from 1:00pm – 4:00pm Thursday afternoons each week. Caregivers are provided respite from their duties and special needs adults can participate in supervised recreational activities. This service is open to the anyone in the community not just for members. Contact: Cindy Hanauer - (904) 327-1951 cindy@grandcentralfloral.com Blessing Bags Ministry – Friday 10/3 12pm - Blessing Bags provide basic, vital essentials to those struggling with homelessness or hunger in our local community. These bags are offered without judgement by our caring volunteers. Blessing Bags are gallon-sized plastic bags stuffed to the brim with essentials like food, toiletries, socks, paper and pens, and even first-aid items. Hope Crafters – Tuesdays 9am - The crafters group meets at 9AM each Tuesday in classroom 205. They work on several outreach projects. No specific skills are required. crafts include stuffed bears for cancer patients and needy children, crosses to give visitors at our services, angel hats, children’s sweaters, lap robes, rolled cotton bandages, prayer shawls, knitted dish cloths, sailors' scarves, and cards for wounded military members. Quilts are also given to local social service agencies such as The Rock and Love, INC., to be given to people in need. Contact: Bob Franceski (352) 750-2321 On Our Own Group – Wednesday 19/8 9am - This group is a ministry of individuals that are ‘On Our Own’ including single, widowed or divorced, and welcome caregivers with spouses not able to be socially active and those that are separated from their families. Our purpose is to provide friendship, support, and fellowship through our monthly group meetings, events and social activities and support many missions in the church. Our major service project has been providing Snack Packs for local elementary schools. Contact: Ginny Wilson (352)430-3326 randy572@msn.com Journey INC – Tuesdays 4:30pm - Journey INC (In the Name of Christ) offers comprehensive transformational training courses from a Bible worldview 48 weeks a year. Through life skills courses Journey participants engage with a trained facilitator and other class members in order to grow mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. That’s not all, Love INC also offers Journey Kids for those who have not yet graduated high school*. The program is Tuesday Evenings 5:15-7:15pm Central Campus and starts with a family meal. The Food Pantry serves Individuals and families in need providing them with shelf-stable food, meat, bread, toiletries and pet food. The Rock is a school-church partnership where the school provides space on its campus for the church to open a pantry that provides food, clothing, school supplies, hygiene products, emotional support and most important, the love of Christ to children in need. Volunteers serve from 11:15am – 1:00pm Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Contact: Church office (352) 750-2321 Love INC – Various times - Love (In the Name of Christ) Heart of Florida connects its partner church volunteers to over 500 families in their community each year. Together, we are able to not only meet over 1,000 needs, but meet each person where they are at. Volunteers opportunities Receptionist, Site Visits (two people), Client Intake forms, Data Entry, Processing and pricing incoming donations for store. Volunteer opportunities are available for people with all mobility levels from phone only to some lifting. Hope Lutheran Church is a Stephen Ministry congregation, part of an international organization that trains church members to provide Christian care to those in our congregation and community who are hurting. Trained lay ministers provide high-quality, one-to-one, confidential Christ-centered care and support to people experiencing a crisis or life difficulty. Prepare the altar for all services including Communion, Rite of Healing, memorial services and others as required. The members store and maintain the altar paraments, altar cloths, brass, and candles. Team members are scheduled one month at a time which equates to about one hour per week during the scheduled month. Worship Assistant – Every service, all three campuses - Worship Assistants are members of the Communion Serving team and have the additional role of assisting the Pastor by lighting the candles prior to the beginning of the service and extinguishing the candles during the closing hymn. They also read the Lesson of the Day and lead the Creed and Prayers of the People. During communion, Worship Assistants join the pastor(s) and serving team in distributing communion to congregants. Ushers - Every service, all three campuses - The ushers assist people attending church to locate a seat and direct worshipers during Communion and Rite of Healing. Communion Servers - Every service, all three campuses - The Communion and Rite of Healing Team members assist the Pastors with the distribution of Holy Eucharist and administration of the Rite of Healing during regularly scheduled worship and other special services. At some services one communion server also serves as Worship Assistant. This role may involve the lighting and extinguishing of candles, doing the reading, and leading prayers and the Creed.
