What are we trying to discover?
We are doing this study to understand the need for one or more supervised consumption sites (SCSs) or overdose prevention sites (OPSs) in the Region of Peel. The study will try to understand whether SCSs or OPSs are of interest to the community and whether or not it makes sense (is feasible) to open one or more in Peel. This will include determining how many SCS and/or OPSs Peel should have, the best location(s), whether SCSs and/or OPSs should be in buildings or in mobile vehicles (vans, trailers), and if the service should be located alone or with other health or social services.

You are invited to take part in this study because we want to hear the opinions of people living, working or going to school in the Region of Peel about supervised consumption sites and overdose prevention sites.

What will happen during the study?
You will be asked to complete a 10-15 minute online survey. You will not need to give your name. We will be asking you some information about your opinions on SCSs and OPSs, where you think these services might be located, what their design should be, and how SCSs and OPSs might be helpful or harmful for people who use drugs and the community. We will also ask you to voluntarily provide the first 3 digits of your postal code which will help us determine our reach in the community.

Sample question #1: Do you think that supervised consumption sites in the Region of Peel would be helpful?
Sample question #2: Do you have any concerns about having supervised consumption sites in the Region of Peel?

Are there any risks to doing this study?
The risks involved in participating in this study are minimal. You may feel uncomfortable talking about drug use. We have provided a list of local services for you in the event that you do feel uncomfortable or sad after completing this survey.

You do not need to answer questions that you do not want to answer or that make you feel uncomfortable and you can stop for a break at any time. You do not have to provide your postal code. You can withdraw (stop taking part) at any time and this will not impact your ability to access services at the Region of Peel. We describe below the steps we are taking to protect your privacy.

Are there any benefits to doing this study?
This study will be used by Peel Public Health to learn how the community feels about the need for SCSs and OPSs in Peel. The results of this study could inform future decisions concerning harm reduction services in the community.

Payment or Reimbursement
There will be no reimbursement for completing the survey.
