AI and the Future of Illustration

Generative AI is changing how illustration is commissioned, how it is valued, and how illustrators’ rights are protected. Some illustrators are already seeing the effects through changing briefs, reduced fees, shorter deadlines, AI-generated images in the commissioning process, style imitation and unauthorised use of creative work.

At a time of political change in the UK, with the Prime Minister’s resignation and a new direction for government ahead, this is an important moment to make sure decision-makers understand what is happening in the illustration industry.

The Association of Illustrators is gathering fresh evidence from illustrators across the UK. We will use this data alongside evidence from other creative industry bodies to inform reports, consultation responses, campaigning and direct conversations with government.

Your experience matters, whether AI has affected your practice directly, indirectly, or not at all. The more illustrators respond, the stronger the evidence becomes.

Please complete this short survey and share it with illustrators, agents, educators, graduates and creative networks across the UK.

This survey should take around 10 minutes. All questions are optional unless marked otherwise.
