Purpose
The Cleveland Chapter of the Oncology Nursing Society is proud to offer the Diana Johnson Memorial Scholarship, an award created to honor the legacy of Diana Johnson, a dedicated oncology nurse and our chapter's biggest cheerleader. Diana was passionate about the nursing profession and believed wholeheartedly in the power of education and growth. She championed the importance of attending the Oncology Nursing Society’s Annual Congress, encouraging as many local members as possible to experience this unique opportunity for both personal and professional development. This scholarship aims to carry forward her vision, empowering oncology nurses to advance their knowledge, network with fellow professionals, and bring the latest insights back to our community.

Specific examples must include at least one of the following:
  • Championing staff and team growth and collaboration.
  • Encouraging team building and professional development opportunities.
  • Communicating by sharing one’s expertise and commitment to oncology nursing to others
The recipient is required to speak about their practice at an upcoming CleONS program.

The award recipient will be announced at the CleONS Fall Conference held on Saturday, November 7, 2026..

Award
$2500 award and a Crystal Sculpture

The monetary award will be given via reimbursement for ONS Congress travel, lodging, and/or the price of Early Bird ONS Congress Registration fee.

Qualifications
To be eligible for this award, the nominee must be:

  • A Registered Nurse currently employed in the field of oncology nursing
  • A member of ONS National and CleONS for a minimum of two (2) years
  • Attended a CleONS event within the past year
  • Has not won this award within the past three (3) years
  • Recipients must be willing to travel to ONS Congress (April 14-18, 2027, in Washington D.C.)

Selection and Scoring
Please note: Applications will receive a reduced score if there is evidence that AI tools were used to generate any portion of this application. Scoring and selection will be based on the following criteria:
  • Essay responses are expected to reflect high-quality writing, including proper grammar, punctuation, syntax, and clarity. Applicants should provide a thorough, well-considered answer and make full use of the allotted word count.
  • Clarity and quality of the following items will be taken into consideration when scoring:
    • Commitment to Sharing Expertise: Demonstrates a strong dedication to sharing knowledge, skills, and expertise in oncology nursing with colleagues and the broader nursing community.
    • Contributions to Growth and Wellbeing: Provides evidence of meaningful contributions that support the professional growth, development, and wellbeing of oncology nurses.
    • Professional and Volunteer Impact: Shows significant professional and volunteer involvement that advances oncology nursing practice, mentorship, and professional development.
