Purpose
Molly was a true pillar of CleONS. She mentored many nurses in her career at University Hospital and Cleveland Clinic. She never said no, just "How can I help?" Molly's last wish was not to let CleONS fade away.

Mentorship is defined by the Oncology Nursing Foundation (ONF) as: “the exceptional influence, guidance, or direction provided by a mentor who significantly impacts the professional and personal growth of other oncology nurses.” Further, ONF defines an oncology nurse mentor as:
  • An active listener
  • Being supportive
  • Coaches mentees to discover their own insights solutions
  • Empathetic and understanding
  • Having an expertise in oncology nursing
  • Giving constructive feedback
  • Providing mentorship beyond what is required by their work or employment responsibilities
  • A role model for others
  • Having a personal interest in their mentee(s)

This award recognizes a current member of ONS National and CleONS who has made a substantial impact on the growth and advancement of oncology nurses.
  • It celebrates an individual who empowers others to reach their full potential through intentional coaching, structured growth activities, and linkage to relevant resources.
  • The honoree exemplifies exceptional mentorship, combining compassionate caregiving with clinical proficiency to guide and influence others.
The recipient would be invited to be a formal mentor for nurses taking part in the upcoming CleONS Certification Course.

The award recipient will be announced at the CleONS Fall Conference held on Saturday, November 7, 2026.

Both nominations of others and self-nominations are encouraged.

$1500 award and a Crystal Sculpture

Qualifications
To be eligible for this award, the nominee must be:

  • A Registered Nurse currently employed in the field of oncology nursing
  • A member of ONS National and CleONS for a minimum of two (2) years
  • Attended a CleONS event within the past year
  • Has not won this award within the past three (3) years

Selection and Scoring

  • Essay responses are expected to reflect high-quality writing, including proper grammar, punctuation, syntax, and clarity. Applicants should provide a thorough, well-considered answer and make full use of the allotted word count.
  • Clarity and quality of the following items will be taken into consideration when scoring:
    • Commitment to mentorship and coaching of oncology nurses.
