Questions About Truancy Ordinances

Dr. David Blatt is the director of research for Oklahoma Appleseed Center for Law and Justice, a non-profit public interest law and policy organization based in Tulsa. He is conducting research for an upcoming report that looks at how truancy issues are dealt with in different jurisdictions, including by cities. He is asking for Oklahoma municipalities for their assistance with this project by answering this survey. Dr. Blatt will be happy to share the findings with OML and respondents.
.Does your city have a municipal truancy ordinance?
.If no, please briefly describe any involvement the city may have with truancy issues, if any.
.If yes, please provide a link to the ordinance below or share as an attachment (at the end of the survey) and reply to the questions below.
.When was the ordinance enacted?
.Does your city police department have agreements with local school districts to provide School Resource Officers? If so, how many SROs are assigned to schools?
.Once school districts refer truancy cases to the city, who makes the decision on whether to file truancy charges?
.Are truancy charges generally brought against students, parents/guardians, or both? If both, who determines who is charged?
.Are there any monetary fees or fines associated with truancy cases?
.Does the city regularly collect data on how many truancy-related charges are filed, and if so, how might that data be accessed?
.Would someone who works on truancy issues be willing to speak with Dr. Blatt further on this subject? If yes, please provide a name, title, email address and phone number of the best person for him to contact.
