Organization excellence award(s) are designed to recognize a utility/economic development organization or associations/government entities that have implemented a successful rural economic development program for their area. The focus will be on the success of communicating the program, improvements to the business climate, and measurable results and outcomes:
  • Analysis of idea/issue (how was the project/opportunity identified)
  • Project development/generation
  • Innovation (the attempt to try out new or improved processes or ways to do things; using emerging technologies)
  • Marketing (marketing materials, marketing events and rural economic development efforts to communicate, inform, educate)
  • Collaboration (partners brought into the process at various levels; bringing in other local, regional and/or state partners)
  • Leadership involvement (staff or elected, how did the economic development group assist)
  • Success in communicating the project/opportunity to the community
  • Economic Impact (workforce development, business retention & expansion, housing, people/dollars that cycled through the program)
  • Other pertinent information
Special consideration and emphasis will be given to nominations that demonstrate economic impact, tangible accomplishments, and results.

* 4. Applicants should submit a brief summary – no more than 3 pages – that describes the organizational goals, objectives and highlights the successful result(s). Include the organization name, the size of the organization by population and land size (i.e. service territory) and the full contact information of the individual who is the key contact for the nomination.
