Treatment of Insomnia

My name is Angie Wiles, and I am Family Nurse Practitioner as well as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.  I am currently a DNP student at Murray State University.  I have a strong interest in how NPs view and treat insomnia.  Your answers to this survey will remain completely anonymous, and no links to your name or information are possible.  Please answer honestly, there are no wrong answers! 1.How many patients do you typically treat for insomnia per week?
2.How would you rate your familiarity and knowledge of treating insomnia?
3.In my opinion, the majority of insomnia is caused by poor sleep hygiene or other modifiable behaviors.
4.I utilize a diagnostic screener to assess insomnia (i.e., Insomnia Severity Index (ISI)
5.I typically utilize non-pharmacological interventions as first-line treatments for insomnia.
6.I prescribe sedatives/hypnotics (i.e., Ambien, Lunesta) as first-line treatment for insomnia.
7.I reserve sedatives/hypnotics for treatment-resistant cases.
8.I typically prescribe non-controlled medications (i.e., trazodone, doxepin) as first-line treatments for insomnia.
9.I am familiar with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy for Insomnia (CBT-I) and currently use this in my practice (or refer patients out for CBT-I)
