Introduction to the survey

Northern mountain caribou are considered a species at risk in the Northwest Territories (NWT). They were listed as a species of Special Concern in 2021 under the Species at Risk (NWT) Act. Under the Act, a management plan must be developed for a species of Special Concern.

For efficiency and to avoid duplication, the
Conference of Management Authorities has agreed to adopt the applicable portions of the federal management plan for northern mountain caribou. An NWT addition has also been drafted with information on positive influences, community-led planning and knowledge gaps in the NWT.
The objective of this survey is to gather feedback on the content, direction and priorities of the draft management plan.
The survey should take about 10 minutes to complete. The management plan will be finalized based on the feedback received and published in July 2023. If you would prefer to contact us directly, you can email your comments to the Species at Risk Secretariat at
Comments are due by October 31, 2022.
