We received plenty of private messages from South Africans abroad asking the further lobbying, engagement, and in some instances, escalation of the efforts on the matter of expatriate taxes. This has become urgent, as it appears PWC is now recommending that the days requirement be increased (which is really bad for our rotational expatriates) and National Treasury should not be allowed to back-track. We are also not happy with "allowances" and "fringe benefits" which are not tax exempt and the general feel is that more can be done. They must be kept in check. We must have the capacity to show even stronger resistance and call them to accountability. Before we start this process, we must have in principle commitment and backing financially.
