REAL Mentoring: Mentor Volunteer Form

REAL Mentoring Description

The Mentorship Program provides guidance from trained mentors for youth from 13-17 years of age. The guidance includes Life Coaching, Emotional Support and Career Exploration as well as teaching youth skills such as identifying and avoiding high-risk situations, communication skills, and building a positive support system. My People represent the Governor’s Prevention Program in four regions including Hartford, Windham, Torrington and Bridgeport.

Real Mentoring will mentor youth from football, soccer, basketball or youth programs. We provide a meaningful activity that will give the youth skills to use after High School; as well deciding to attend college or vocational training. Partnering with My People will allow your youth to be goal oriented towards choosing a plan for their life. The monthly activities will be self-esteem building, peer relationship, goal setting, resume writing, choosing a vocation, or college to attend. We will meet for a full year with your youth for one hour a week or two hours every other week.

Mentors are committed to an average of one hour per week, but the hours are flexible in that they must be in contact with the mentees for a total of four hours per month. The mentor must commit to working with the youth for one year.

Mentors must go through a background check and an intake process that will review the program and the requirements for the program. Matches with mentees that are individually assigned will be done through interest surveys that align mentors with mentees
