Rebuilding Together: Designing for Resilience
Let’s explore the intersection of recovery, resilience, and educational design at the 2027 SouthEast Region Conference. Rebuilding Together: Designing for Resilience. Hurricane Helene changed Asheville and Western North Carolina—homes, schools, infrastructure, landscapes and communities. This conference invites school designers, educators, leaders, and community partners to consider how design can help communities recover while creating a stronger, more connected future.
Schools are places where communities gather, children find stability, relationships are rebuilt, and the future is imagined. The recovery process therefore presents an opportunity to rethink how educational environments can respond to climate events, strengthen community connections, enrich emotional intelligence, and support learning before, during, and after disruption.
Through stories, case studies, conversations, and collaborative exploration, the conference will examine how designers and educators can work alongside communities—not simply designing for them but designing with them.
From recovery to resilience. From rebuilding to reimagining. From places we remember to places we create, together.
All speakers must be available to speak on all or any of the session days as sessions will be assigned time slots. WE ARE UNABLE TO GUARANTEE A SPECIFIC SPEAKING DATE/TIME.
