Boyds School Road Pathway Study

Proposed Pathway Community Survey
Making Boyds School Road safer for pedestrians and cyclists is our priority. Connecting this corridor to the North Gettysburg Trail is the next step toward a safer, healthier, and more connected community.
Introduction
Healthy Adams Bicycle/Pedestrian, Inc. (HABPI), in partnership with engineering consultant C.S. Davidson, Inc. (CSD), is working towards the creation of the Boyds School Road Pathway Feasibility Study. This project aims to improve pedestrian and bicycle safety along Boyds School Road and create a direct connection to the North Gettysburg Trail.

Boyds School Road serves as a key east-west connector between Biglerville Road (SR 0034) and Old Harrisburg Road (SR 3001), providing direct access to the Gettysburg Area High School and linking neighborhoods to the high school and surrounding regional routes. This corridor, along with Shealer Road, also serves as a northern bypass of Gettysburg, connecting Route 30 (at US-15) to Route 34 (Biglerville Road) and extending north 25 miles to Carlisle, PA. Boyds School Road is vital for local travel and for connecting new residential developments, such as Kortney Meadow, Table Rock Terrace, and Amblebrook, which will add over 2,000 housing units within proximity to the Boyds School Road Corridor. Existing neighborhoods such as Patriots’ Choice and Twin Oaks already rely on this corridor for access to the high school and other local entertainment, service, and retail amenities.

Boyds School Road lacks sidewalks and bike lanes, forcing pedestrians, cyclists, and those using mobility devices to share narrow lanes and even narrower shoulders with vehicles traveling at posted speeds of 35–45 mph. Nearby PennDOT traffic data show that US-15 near Gettysburg carries ~25,000 cars per day, US-30 approaches 12,000–14,000, and Old Harrisburg Road carries around 9,100, feeding traffic onto local roads and compounding risks.
