Mentor Application

Thank you for your interest in POPAI's Mentoring Program. This Application lays out the expectations and general procedures of the process for selecting Mentors

Program Intent: The Probation Officers Professional Association of Indiana is sponsoring Mentoring Program for selected members to prepare future leaders for the Association and for the field of community supervision. This program focuses on advancing the personal, professional and POPAI-related goals of the Mentor Clients.

The POPAI program will be customized to meet the unique needs of POPAI members. Our standard support and facilitation include the following:

• The disbursement of personality assessments for both mentor and mentee. These are used for matching purposes and to allow the mentor and mentees to better understand each other’s leadership styles.

• The facilitation of a mentor program kickoff meeting.

This meeting will be held Wednesday September 8, 2021 from 9 am to 1 pm prior to the start of the POPAI Fall Conference. This meeting allows the mentor and mentee to meet each other while learning roles and responsibilities and best practices of being a mentor and mentee. It is also during this time that each pair has an opportunity to review their personality assessment, discuss existing strengths and blind spots and shares their interests in leadership development.  Finally, this meeting allows for the development of goals by the mentee with the assistance of the mentor.

• Over the course of 12 months, we will host a series of calls with the mentors, mentees and paired groups. Following each call, the facilitator gathers trends and challenges identified by each group and circulates them to the entire group for review. This provides for an amazing sharing and learning opportunity.

• Over the course of 12 months, we will deliver specific content to both pairs and the larger group as a way to move their individual and collective professional development journey forward.

• Over the course of 12 months, we will work with POPAI leadership to identify future volunteer leaders for the organization.

• In addition to those services listed above, we will work closely with POPAI leadership to develop the formal POPAI Emerging Leaders Program.
