Oasis Intergenerational Skilled Trades Mentoring Program

School systems generally promote a college going culture for all students, however, statistics indicate that while 61 % of high school students enter college in California, 55% will complete a two-year degree and less than 30% will complete their bachelor's degree.

At San Diego Oasis, we are looking into how we can address the issue of educating students about alternative possibilities of lucrative and respectable career choices that are available in the workplace.

Students are often unaware that skilled trades can provide a successful career with excellent pay and benefits, whether working for a company or as an entrepreneur.

Many skilled workers have discovered that in retirement they find themselves wishing to continue meaningful, purposeful activities to keep them engaged and active. Creating a mentoring program would enable them to fulfill their desire to share the skills that they have developed over their lifetime, and in many cases, made a career doing. Many desire to inspire young people to consider careers in these important skilled professions.

If this describes you, we would appreciate learning the trades in which you have been involved.
