Dear Sir/Madam,
I am contacting you on behalf of the regional initiative
RESULT Asia Pacific (Restoring and Sustaining Landscapes Together in Asia-Pacific), which was launched one year ago by several ministers. It aims to help 22 countries restore and sustainably manage 100 million hectares of degraded landscapes. It is advanced by 40 partners. See more
here.
To help the countries build their business cases for restoring at scale, we are analysing the costs and benefits of restoration across diverse ecosystems and territories. This will focus on completed or on-going restoration projects in the last 10 years. We then aim to assess the total costs and benefits of restoring 100 million ha; it may help find investment gaps and thereby encourage blended finance.
The literature review done so far indicates limited availability of the data on costs and benefits of restoration in the Asia Pacific region; data collection through a survey among the project managers may help address this information gap to some extent. In this context, we will be grateful if you could complete this survey by
06 February 2026. We request you to kindly fill in cost and benefit estimates from any forest and landscape restoration project you are familiar with and have confidence in your data. For example, if you are confident with the cost data but not the benefit data, just fill in the cost part. Informed estimates and professional judgement are acceptable.
About 30 minutes will be needed to fill in one questionnaire.
Please fill in more questionnaires if you have more projects or more than three project sites in the same project.
We can arrange a brief call, if needed, to discuss how to fill in the questionnaire. Please contact me via email (
illias.animon@fao.org) if you wish to have the call.
The effort will lead to a dashboard of costs and benefits, which can be used by the project formulators and practitioners while shaping restoration projects in various ecosystems and territories.
Your contribution would be incredibly beneficial to help scale up restoration. All data will be used only in aggregation with other projects. We will acknowledge your input in any publication from this analysis and will share the results with you.
Thank you in advance for your time and assistance; we look forward to receiving your input.
Kind regards,
Illias Animon
